2023年7月より駐日アイスランド大使館の副代表として就任。

2016年にアイスランド外交部に入省する以前は、首都レイキャビクにあるアイスランド商工会議所および英国貿易投資省で貿易・投資促進に携わる。外務省では北極海域における協力・外交関連や広報文化外交の分野に従事。過去数年間は、ニューヨークの国際連合アイスランド政府代表部とパリのユネスコ代表部次席代表を務めた。最近では2023年に開催された欧州評議会レイキャビク・サミットのコーディネートマネジメントと企画を担当。

ニューヨークのAFS異文化交流プログラムやアイスランド赤十字の理事も務めた経験有。ロンドン大学SOASで修士号、コペンハーゲン・ビジネス・スクールで経営理学士号を取得。過去に日本への留学の経験をもつ。

Ragnar Thorvardarson is the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo, since July 2023.

Before joining the Icelandic diplomatic service in 2016, he worked on trade and investment promotion at the Iceland Chamber of Commerce and UK Trade and Investment in Reykjavík. At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, his work focused on Arctic affairs and public diplomacy. In the past years he served at the Icelandic Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and as Deputy Permanent Delegate to UNESCO in Paris. Recently he was responsible for the co-ordination and planning of the 2023 Reykjavík Summit of the Council of Europe.

Ragnar has also served on the boards of AFS Intercultural Programs in New York and the National Society of the Icelandic Red Cross. He holds an MA degree from SOAS University of London, a BSc degree from Copenhagen Business School, and has previously lived and studied in Japan.
